Dr. Daniel D. Liou

With more than 28 years of professional experience in education, Daniel Liou has been a researcher, educator, and author of more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and publicly accessible scholarship. Dr. Liou's research broadly examines educational inequities, social justice education, and the sociology of education. He is an appointed member of numerous editorial boards for academic journals, and the recipient of several national and local awards in recognition of the impact of his scholarship and practice in education. Dr. Liou brings an intersectional perspective as an immigrant and the first member of his family to graduate from high school and college.
Dr. Liou is also an associate professor of educational leadership at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. As a community-based researcher, Liou’s scholarship examines the sociological manifestations of expectations in the organization of classrooms, schools, and society, contextualizing educational practices in relational, curricular and institutional terms. He currently serves as an elected member and the president of the Los Angeles College Prep Academy School Board, creating conditions in real time to support first-generation college-going students' academic success.
Dr. Gordon is an educator, freedom fighter, author, community organizer, song writer, and poet in possession of a powerful leadership style that has provided him the opportunity to speak directly to the hearts and minds of the communities that he’s served over the last 21 years. A San Francisco Bay Area native, Dr. G experienced first hand the impact of colonialism and the colonial mindset in his Pilipino community which shaped his societal outlook.
Throughout his years in service to schools, Dr. G integrates the socio-political context in which his students live, empowering them with critical thinking tools, to reflect on their humanity in relation to their community, and society. A life long learner himself, Dr. G completed a Masters and Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Cal State Long Beach with an emphasis on social justice leadership and community healing and engagement.
Dr. G resides in Boyle Heights with his wife Vanessa, a Dean in Student Services at East Los Angeles College. Their 7 year old son Kilohana Lapu-Lapu is currently learning the drums and piano, while working on his first book.
Robin Maxile

Robin brings with her a care-centered model that is rooted in trauma-invested care and healing work. She began her work as an educator of equity and justice working with k-12 students. Later, she went on to develop and implement programming centered on building anti-racist, anti-bias, and culturally competent environments, holding space for profound conversations that encourage folx to critically examine the realities of systemic inequity.
Robin's work with equity and justice in education stems from her own experiences as a low-income, first generation, Black woman in K-12 as well as undergraduate and graduate in study programs. The erasure and push out of Black girlhood, as told by Marcia Chatelain (South Side Girls) and Monique W. Morris (Pushout), is what centers Robin's work as an advocate for holistic student care. Having found her niche for facilitating challenging conversation on race, ethnicity, class, and accessibility, Robin works to uplift and empower marginalized student communities to use their agency, think outside the box, and exhaust all their resources.
Hailing from Louisiana, Robin earned her Bachelor's degree in Communications at Northwestern State University. She later went on to earn her Masters of Counseling Psychology degree at Mount Saint Mary's University in Los Angeles, CA. Robin is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Cultural Foundations of Education at Syracuse University with a focus on Black student trauma. She is an American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Holmes Scholar and teaches a foundational graduate course that explores key issues affecting marginalized communities at her alma mater, Mount Saint Mary's University. She proudly serves on the Los Angeles College Prep Board as an agent of love, human centered practices and anti-racist work.

Louise is one of our LACPA parents. As a board member, she champions individualized education. She advocates passionately for the transformative power of visual arts as a creative outlet and source of well-being. Louise firmly believes in the ability of art to inspire and uplift individuals. Currently, she is furthering her education, nurturing her passion and expanding her knowledge in the field.
